Installation Loop

Fix Roblox Infinite Install Loop

Every time you click "Play," Roblox asks you to install again? This frustrating loop happens when the browser doesn't recognize Roblox is already installed. Here's how to fix it.

Why Does This Happen?

The infinite install loop occurs when your browser loses the "roblox-player://" protocol association. Normally, when you click "Play" on roblox.com, your browser knows to launch the Roblox app. When this association breaks, the browser thinks Roblox isn't installed and prompts you to download it again.

Common causes include: browser cache issues, incomplete previous installations, antivirus interference, or Windows registry corruption. This affects all browsers including Chrome, Edge, and Firefox on Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Understanding the Loop

The Roblox infinite install loop happens when protocol handlers break, causing your browser to lose the association between roblox-player:// URLs and the installed Roblox application. Each time you click "Play," the browser doesn't recognize that Roblox is already on your computer and initiates a fresh download.

If Roblox keeps reinstalling every time you click "Play," this indicates corrupted Windows registry entries or browser cache conflicts preventing the protocol handler from registering properly. Clearing browser site data and reinstalling Roblox with administrator privileges usually restores the correct file associations and resolves the loop permanently.

Step-by-Step Fix Guide

1

Clear Browser Site Data for Roblox

Clear all stored data for roblox.com in your browser. This resets the protocol handler association.

Chrome:

1. Go to: chrome://settings/siteData

2. Search for "roblox"

3. Click the trash icon to remove all Roblox data

Edge:

1. Go to: edge://settings/siteData

2. Search for "roblox" and remove

2

Delete Roblox and Reinstall Fresh

Completely remove Roblox including all leftover files, then install fresh to reset the protocol handler.

1. Uninstall Roblox from Settings > Apps

2. Delete: %localappdata%\Roblox folder

3. Delete: %appdata%\Roblox (if exists)

4. Restart your computer

5. Go to roblox.com and click Play on any game

6. When prompted, click "Download and Install Roblox"

3

Run Browser as Administrator During Install

Running your browser with admin rights ensures proper protocol registration.

1. Close your browser completely

2. Right-click browser icon > "Run as administrator"

3. Go to roblox.com and click Play

4. When the popup appears asking "Open Roblox?"

5. Check "Always allow" before clicking Open

4

Set Default Apps for Roblox Protocol

Manually associate the roblox-player protocol with the Roblox app in Windows settings.

1. Open Settings > Apps > Default apps

2. Scroll down and click "Choose defaults by link type"

3. Search for ROBLOX-PLAYER

4. Set it to open with Roblox

5. Also check for ROBLOX and set that too

5

Re-register Roblox Protocol (Advanced)

If the above steps don't work, manually re-register the protocol handler using the Roblox bootstrapper.

1. Open File Explorer and go to:

%localappdata%\Roblox\Versions\

2. Open the latest version folder

3. Find and right-click RobloxPlayerBeta.exe

4. Select "Run as administrator"

5. This will re-register the protocol handler

6

Try a Different Browser

If the issue persists in one browser, try using a different browser to install and play Roblox.

Recommended browsers:

• Microsoft Edge (best compatibility on Windows)

• Google Chrome

• Mozilla Firefox

Install Roblox from the new browser and ensure you check "Always allow" when prompted.
