Roblox Stuck on "Checking for Updates" (How to Fix)
Roblox says "Checking for updates"… and stays there forever.
This usually means:
- Roblox can't connect to its update servers.
- Files from a previous update are corrupted.
- Antivirus or proxies are blocking the update process.
1. Restart Router and PC
- Turn off your router for 30 seconds.
- Turn it back on.
- Restart your PC.
- Try Roblox again.
If it's still stuck, continue.
2. Reset DNS & Network Settings
- Open Command Prompt (Admin).
- Run:
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh int ip reset
netsh winsock reset
- Reboot your PC.
3. Temporarily Disable VPN & Proxies
Roblox update servers may not like certain VPN IPs or strict proxies.
- Turn off VPN.
- Turn off Proxy in Windows settings.
- Try again from your normal connection.
4. Clean Roblox Update Files
- Press
Win + R→ enter:
%localappdata%\Roblox
- Delete:
- Downloads
- Versions
- Empty Recycle Bin.
- Reinstall Roblox from the official website.
5. Check Antivirus Logs
Your antivirus may silently block Roblox update files.
- Open your AV dashboard.
- Check recent blocked threats / quarantined items.
- Restore Roblox-related files and add them to the allow-list.
FAQ
Q: Is this a server-side issue sometimes? Yes. If many players report the same problem at the same time, Roblox might be having an outage.
Q: Will deleting Versions break Roblox? No. Roblox automatically recreates it during the next install/update.
