Frequently Asked Questions
A ping under 100ms is considered good for Roblox. Under 50ms is excellent and provides the smoothest gameplay experience. Ping between 100-200ms is playable but you may notice some delay in character movements. Above 200ms will cause noticeable lag and rubber-banding.
High ping can be caused by WiFi interference, distance from Roblox servers, network congestion from other devices, background downloads or streams, outdated router firmware, or ISP throttling. Try switching to a wired Ethernet connection, closing background apps, and changing your DNS to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8.
To reduce lag: 1) Use a wired Ethernet connection instead of WiFi, 2) Close bandwidth-heavy applications, 3) Lower Roblox graphics quality in Settings, 4) Change DNS to Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) or Google (8.8.8.8), 5) Restart your router, 6) Update your network drivers, 7) Disable VPN if you're using one.
In most cases, a VPN adds extra latency and makes lag worse. However, a VPN can help if your ISP is throttling gaming traffic or if you need to connect to Roblox servers in a different region. If you use a VPN, choose a server close to your physical location for the best results.
Roblox uses UDP ports 49152-65535 for game traffic. It also requires HTTPS (port 443) for web requests and authentication. Make sure your firewall and router allow outbound UDP traffic on these port ranges. If you're behind a strict firewall, you may need to add exceptions for Roblox.
